Patent or Utility Model – What’s the Difference?
A patent is the classic form of technical intellectual property protection: It is granted following a substantive examination and can provide long-term protection.
A utility model is often the faster alternative: It is typically registered without a substantive examination and is therefore often available as a registered right in a timely manner.
Both instruments can protect technical inventions, but they differ primarily in terms of method, speed, and strategic use.
